U.S. Ambassador meets with Speaker of Parliament of Libya

The US Envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, has discussed with the Speaker of Parliament, Aqila Saleh, the situation in Libya, with a focus on the developments of the electoral process.

Aqila said during his reception of Norland and the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy, Leslie Ordman, in Benghazi that the Parliament has fulfilled all the legislation required to hold the presidential and parliamentary elections through the 13th amendment and electoral laws.

He stressed the need for a unified government to organise the elections and the readiness of the High Electoral Commission to conduct this national event.

For his part, Norland tweeted, “Speaker Saleh and I discussed the HoR’s efforts to date to establish a constitutional basis for elections.

He assured Saleh of Washington’s support for the UN head of mission’s efforts with Libyan leaders to finalise a basis for presidential and parliamentary elections in 2023.
