UNSMIL welcomes Zintan-Misurata reconciliation

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomes all reconciliation initiatives between communities in Libya, aiming at restoring safety and stability to the daily lives of Libyans.

In this context the mission welcomes recent reconciliation efforts and the agreement signed between the cities of Misurata and Zintan and hopes it paves the way for peaceful relations and positive collaboration between the two communities.

A delegation from Zintan city arrived this afternoon in Misurata city in order to carry out talks aimed at settling down the conflict between the cities that started in mid-2014.

The delegation of Zintan includes officials from military council, municipal council and the high council of Zintan tribes.

The two cities’ representatives are set to continue their efforts to have a comprehensive reconciliation agreement after the Misurata delegation visited in March Zintan and took the first initiative in this regard.
