US airstrikes on Sirte killed 6 IS militants, Libyan forces announce
Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous air force sources revealed Tuesday that the US had carried out two airstrikes on Monday targeting remnants of IS militants in the surrounding of the 600 Buildings neighbourhood in downtown Sirte.
The sources added that the US airstrikes killed 6 IS radicals and destroyed two booby-trapped cars, which were heading toward Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous forces in a bid to penetrate them and make a deadly suicide attack in neighbourhood 3.
Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous forces, appointed by the UN-backed Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord, have been advancing quite well in recent days and have managed to corner IS remaining militants in less than 2 km area inside neighbourhood 3, Jizah and 600 Buildings neighbourhoods.
Last week, the Misurata-led forces of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous seized the building of the social insurance in Sirte from IS terrorists, along with Al-Fateh school, a workshop used by IS as explosives factory, and the Big Mosque in neighbourhood 3.
