Foreign Ministry, Interior Ministry and UN condemn terrorist attack in Tripoli

In a joint presser in Libya’s capital Tripoli on Tuesday – after the attack of the morning – the Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha and and the Foreign Minister Mohammad Sayala have both condemned the terrorist attack on the Foreign Ministry building in Zawiyit Al-Dahmani in Tripoli.

The Foreign Minister denounced the attack and said Libya still lacks lots of funding and resources to fight terrorism, which is an international dilemma.

While the Interior Minister lamented the chaos and lack of security in Tripoli, citing lack of funding by the government and the delayed implementation of the security arrangements.

Bashagha called in the presser on the Presidential Council to allow the needed budget for the security arrangements and to allocate more efforts to tighening up the security grip on teh vital institutions in the capital.

In the meantime, the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) strongly condemned the cowardly terrorist attack on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tuesday, in Tripoli.

“Terrorism will not triumph over the Libyans’ decision to move forward towards building their state and renouncing violence. We will not accept any attack on a state institution, especially one committed by a terrorist group. We will work with the Libyan people to prevent terrorist groups from turning Libya into a haven or an arena for their crimes,” said Ghassan Salamé, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Libya.

The latest Health Ministry statistics revealed over 10 injuries and three killed persons – employees from the Foreign Ministry.

While social media reported that the spokesman for the Tripoli Revolutionaries Brigade, Abdelrahman Al-Miziwaghy, was also killed while trying to thwart the attack on the Foreign Ministry this morning.
