The UN human rights office reported on Friday that over 100 medical and emergency personnel have died in Lebanon since the onset of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah a year ago.
The conflict began when Hezbollah engaged in hostilities alongside Palestinian militant group Hamas during the start of the Gaza war. Recent weeks have seen a significant escalation in the conflict, including Israeli airstrikes in Beirut.
A UN spokesperson, citing figures compiled by the UN humanitarian office, stated that over 100 medical and emergency workers have been killed across Lebanon since October of last year. There have also been reports of airstrikes targeting medical facilities and resulting in the deaths of paramedics and firefighters.
The World Health Organization has reported 18 attacks on health facilities in Lebanon since September 17, leading to the deaths of 72 health workers.
