Footballer sidelined over shorts dispute

Iqra Ismail, former captain of the Somali women’s national football team, was prevented from playing in a Greater London Women’s Football League match due to a disagreement over attire.

The 24-year-old, who recently signed with United Dragons FC, was informed by the referee that she could not participate in Sunday’s game unless she wore the club’s shorts. Ismail, who prefers to wear tracksuit bottoms for religious reasons, was left “visibly upset” by the decision.

This incident has sparked a debate about religious accommodation in sports. The Middlesex FA is currently investigating the matter to ensure a swift resolution.
