Libya and Turkey sign sports cooperation

The Minister of Sports in Libya’s Government of National Unity, Fouad Barghash, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Turkish side to strengthen cooperation in the sports sector, as part of ongoing efforts to develop Libya’s sporting landscape.
The agreement was concluded during Barghash’s participation in the 8th International Conference on Traditional Sports, held in the Turkish city of Antalya.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Sports on Sunday, the memorandum followed a meeting between Barghash and Necmettin Bilal Erdoğan, President of the World Ethnosport Confederation. The two sides discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation and expand partnerships between sports institutions in Libya and Turkey.
The ministry said the memorandum establishes a practical framework for collaboration across a range of sporting fields, with a focus on developing Libyan sports, improving the capabilities of national personnel, and facilitating the exchange of expertise.
It added that the agreement aligns with the government’s broader vision of engaging with international experience and building effective partnerships that contribute to the advancement of the country’s sports sector.
The move comes amid continued efforts by Libyan authorities to revitalise sports institutions and strengthen international cooperation, with the aim of improving performance and expanding opportunities for athletes and sports professionals across the country.
